ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The #13 Ouachita Tigers fell to #37 Drury University 5-4 on Sunday, marking the first home loss of the year for the Tigers. The Tigers are now 7-3 on the season.
Ouachita held a 2-1 lead after doubles play. The doubles duo of
Lennart Lonnemann and
David Carbo won their match 8-4.
Maciej Braciszewicz and
Jason Mechali earned an 8-3 win in the #3 doubles slot. Ouachita's top doubles tandem of
Vitor Oliveira and
Luis Chab lost a hard-fought match to the fourth-ranked doubles team in Division II, Maximilian Hepp and Kay Bartmann, by final of 11-9.
Drury would take four of the six singles matches, but not without a fight. Oliveira, Lonnemann and
Braciszewicz all fell in three sets. Mechali won in straight sets and Chab earned a win by forfeit to give the Tigers their two wins on the singles side. Head coach Craig Ward was pleased with his squad's effort.
"It was a great match. Lots of momentum switches on both sides of the net," coach Ward said. "Our guys fought as hard as they could. I am confident we will learn a lot from this and be better the next time we step on the court."
The Tigers have one final match in March before conference play begins in April. They host Seward Community College on March 30 at 11:00 a.m.
