ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Ouachita softball lost both games of a doubleheader on Monday, losing to the Southeastern Oklahoma State Savage Storm, 10-2 and 11-2. Kelly Powell and Sarah Johnson highlighted the day for Ouachita, recorded three hits and two hits, respectively, as Johnson recorded her second homerun of the season.
Southeastern (18-6, 14-0 GAC) took a commanding lead early in the first game, scoring eight runs through the first four innings. Johnson homered in the bottom of the fourth to cut the deficit to seven runs, and she later picked up another RBI in the sixth to bring the score to 8-2.
A two-run seventh inning, however, extended Southeastern's lead to 10-2, and Ouachita (7-15, 1-13 GAC) was unable to score again. Macy Nantz was handed the loss for the Tigers, pitching the first four innings. Nantz allowed eight runs but only five were earned. Kelsey O'Brien finished the game for Ouachita, pitching the final three innings.
Ouachita took the first lead of the second game, after Powell tripled in the third inning to score Paige Purifoy. Kailey Madden immediately followed with a single to score Powell and put the Tigers ahead 2-0.
Southeastern pulled within one run after scoring in the top of the fourth inning, and the Savage Storm later took a 3-2 on a homer to right-centerfield. Ouachita then allowed eight more runs in the top of the sixth and could not pull within eight runs in the bottom half of the inning, ending the game after six innings.
Marissa Bulter started at pitcher for Ouachita and held Southeastern scoreless through the first three innings. Butler and the Tigers allowed seven over the next three innings, however, which brought in Kelsey O'Brien to finish the final inning.
Ouachita will return to Great American Conference action on Friday, March 18, when the Tigers host Southern Arkansas University. The first pitch on Friday is scheduled for 1 p.m.
