Strong outings by starters not enough for Tigers

MONTICELLO, Ark. – Despite quality starts from Macy Nantz and Marissa Butler, the Ouachita Tigers softball team dropped both games of Saturday's double header with the University of Arkansas at Monticello Blossoms. The Tigers fell in game one, 1-0, and 8-5 in game two.

Kelly Powell and Sarah Johnson collected the Tigers' two hits. Johnson collected the first hit for Ouachita with a single in the fourth inning. Powell led of the sixth inning with an infield single.

Down 1-0 in game two, the Tigers offense responded with two runs in the top of the fifth. Suzie Gresham and Kelly Powell each drove in runs to give the Tigers the 2-1 lead. Ouachita added three more runs in the top of the sixth to extend the lead to 5-1. Kate Lacina and Delaney Bono each drove in a run, while Emily Acuna scored from third on a passed ball.

Marissa Butler left the game in the bottom of the sixth with runners on and holding a 5-1 lead. Through five innings, Butler allowed five hits and was credited with three earned runs. She struck out two and walked one.

The Blossoms scored seven runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning to retake the lead and hold on for the 8-5 win. The Tigers finished the game with eight hits, including two two-hit performances from Kelly Powell and Delaney Bono.
