Ouachita softball drops doubleheader to ECU

ADA, Okla. - Ouachita softball fell to 7-13 on the season after dropping a doubleheader to the East Central Tigers on Sunday. ECU defeated the Tigers 9-0 and 6-5.

In the first game, East Central (11-11, 8-3 GAC) scored one run in each of the first three innings and later added six in the fourth. Ouachita could not answer, and the game ended after five innings.

In the second game of the day and fourth game of the series, Ouachita (7-13, 1-11 GAC) scored first with a run in the top of the third on a single by Sarah Johnson. The single allowed Suzie Gresham to score, after Gresham reached base on an infield single.

East Central answered with four runs in the bottom of the third to take a 4-1 lead, but Ouachita pulled within one run with two runs in the fourth. KJ Keeley led off the top of the fourth by reaching first on an error, and Daniella Brantley followed with a homer to left field. The homerun was Brantley's second of the season.

After a scoreless fifth inning, the Tigers took their second lead of the game with two runs in the sixth. Kate Lacina led off the inning with a single, and she later reached third on an error. A single by Macy Nantz allowed Lacina to tie the game, and a single by Kelsey O'Brien allowed Delaney Bono to score and give Ouachita a 5-4 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, however, East Central led off with a double and later scored on an error. With a runner on second and one out, ECU recorded a walk-off single up the middle to score the game-winning run.

The Tigers will return to conference play on Saturday, March 12, when Ouachita hosts Southeastern Oklahoma State. The first game of the series is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at Sully Anderson Field.
