ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Tigers softball team pulled off two come-from-behind wins on Friday at Sully Anderson Field to take two games from Oklahoma Baptist University and move ahead of Northwestern Oklahoma State in the GAC standings.
Kelly Powell went 4-7 on the day with two runs, two RBI and two stolen bases.
In game one, Oklahoma Baptist held a 3-0 lead after the first inning of play. Ouachita answered in the bottom of the second inning with a three-run rally oif their own.
Gabby Gonzalez led of the scoring by a drawing a bases-loaded walk with no outs, scoring
Kate Lacina.
Suzie Gresham singled up the middle scoring
Alex Jennings and
Kelly Powell's single through the right side of the infield scored
Delaney Bono and tie the game at 3-3.
Oklahoma Baptist would regain the lead in the top of the fifth on a two-out RBI double to center. The Tigers would remain down by one run heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. Powell tied the game on a double to center, scoring
Kaylie Roberts.
Suzie Gresham just missed giving the Tigers the lead on the play, but was thrown out at home by half a step.
Macy Nantz brought home Powell to give the Tigers a 5-4 lead and then scored on a RBI single by
Sarah Johnson. The three-run inning put Ouachita up 6-4 heading into the top of the seventh,
The Bison would tack on one run in the seventh, but Ouachita held for the 6-5 win in game one.
Macy Nantz earned her seventh win of the year in relief. She allowed two runs, one earned on three hits in 3.2 innings. She struck out three in the outing,
Kelsey O'Brien got the start for Ouachita in game two and held the Bison hitless through 4.2 innings. Ouachita held a 1-0 lead into the top of the sixth inning. The Tigers scored in the bottom of the first. Powell led the inning off with a single and stole second. Nantz advanced Powell to third on a sacrifice bunt.
Sarah Johnson singled to right and scored Powell.
Oklahoma Baptist scored three runs in the in the top of the sixth, two coming off a homerun to left.
Gabby Gonzalez relieved O'Brien to get the final two outs of the Bison's sixth. Ouachita chipped the Oklahoma Baptist lead to one in the bottom half of the inning when
KJ Keeley drew a bases-loaded walk to score Johnson.
Marissa Butler entered the top of the seventh and ended the inning with a strikeout to keep the Tigers within one.
Macy Nantz hit a towering homerun to straight-away center field with one out in the inning to tie the game at 3-3.
Sarah Johnson followed with a walk and later moved to second on a two-out walk by
Kate Lacina. Johnson scored the winning run all the way from second when the Oklahoma Baptist shortstop threw the ball away on a groundout. The 4-3 win was the Tigers third straight.
The two teams return to action tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. Seniors
Suzie Gresham and
Kailey Madden will be honored in a special ceremony between the two games.
