The Series
The two teams first met on Sept. 10, 1988 in Weatherford, Okla. with Ouachita winning by a final of 17-6. The Tigers hold an 8-4 advantage over the Bulldogs, winning all five games played in Arkadelphia. The Tigers had won four straight over SWOSU before last season's 58-38 road loss.
Over the course of the series, the Tigers have outscored SWOSU, 323 to 223. In 12 games, the average margin of victory has been just over two touchdowns (14.5 points). However in the last four games, that margin increases by just over a touchdown (22.75 points).
Beginning in 2013, the game's winner lays claim to a traveling trophy, The Paul Sharp Cup. Sharp, an alumnus of Ouachita, served as the Tigers offensive coordinator from 1977-78 and was the head coach at Southwestern Oklahoma State for 19 seasons (1986-2004). While at SWOSU, he led the Bulldogs to the 1996 NAIA National Championship and won a record 93 games.
