ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Tigers' men's basketball team were defeated by Arkansas Tech on the road in Russellville, Ark on Thursday night by a final of 78-66. Seniors
Carven Holcolmbe and
Lakee Westbrook finished with 24 and 20 points respectively in the loss.
Despite finishing the game with a higher shooting percentage and fewer turnovers, Ouachita lost the battle on the boards, allowing the Wonder Boys to pull down 18 offensive rebounds. Tech converted those into 24 second-chance points. The Tigers were out-rebounded 44-28. Holcolmbe went 10-16 from the floor and made all four free-throw attempts.He also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Westbrook finished the game shooting 7-11 from the floor and made 3-5 from beyond the arc.
A pair of free throws by Holcolmbe put Ouachita up by five with 13:42 to play in the first. The Wonder Boys scored the next 12 points to take a seven point lead, up 26-19. The Tigers regained the lead with a 10-2 run with just over five minutes remaining in the half. Tech answered again and scored the final five points of the half. They led 44-37.
With 12:14 left to play in the game, Westbrook knocked down a jumper to cut the Tech lead to five, but the Tigers would not get closer to catching the Wonder Boys. Holcolmbe scored 12 of Ouachita's 29 second half points on 5-7 shooting. The Tigers would fall by a final of 78-66.
The Tigers return to Bill Vining Arena on Saturday, Jan. 14. They host Harding and tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
