Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Caleb Byrd

Tigers prove themselves more than ready in win over HSU

The Ouachita Tigers' men's basketball team comfortably defeated Henderson State at home in the Battle of the Ravine by a final score of 76-60. The Tigers rode a 20-6 first half run to a big halftime lead and never looked back. The Tigers' record improved to 8-5 overall and 6-3 in the Great American Conference with the win.

The Tigers started the game slow, falling behind 14-6 early in the game. But a big three-point basket from Mahlon Martin sparked a 20-6 run for the Tigers which saw them leading 32-20 with three minutes left in the first half. Ouachita carried that lead into the break, with the score standing at 37-26 at halftime. Justin McCleary led the Tigers with eight points in the first half.

Ouachita continued their dominance into the second-half, leading the Reddies by as much as 17. The Tiger lead only dropped to single-digits one time in the half. A big part of the Tigers' second half dominance was their aggressiveness on both ends of the court. The Tigers accumulated 19 free-throw attempts in the second half, making 16 of them.

Ouachita was led offensively by Justin McCleary, who scored 17 points, including three three-pointers. Three other Tigers, Isaiah Harper (16), Lakee Westbrook (13), and Carven Holcombe (10), also scored in double-figures. Harper led the Tigers with an impressive 14 rebounds, including seven from the offensive glass. Jordan Corbitt had 5 assists in the game.

The Tigers will host conference leader Arkansas-Monticello on Jan. 19. Tip-off will be at 7:30 p.m.
