Lady Tigers fall to Blossoms, 74-67

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Lady Tigers fell to 7-9 on the season Thursday night after falling to Arkansas Monticello by a final of 74-67. The loss dropped the Lady Tigers to 4-6 in conference play. Freshman Madison Brittain led the Lady Tigers with 17 points while Bria Caldwell added 13 and a game-high nine rebounds. 

The Lady Tigers erased an early deficit, taking a 10-9 lead midway through the opening quarter. Bria Caldwell scored nine in the first quarter, with two coming from beyond the arc. Ouachita took a 23-20 lead into the second quarter. The Lady Tigers held the lead until late in the second quarter. The Blossoms' Braxton Chumley's lay-up with 4:13 to play in the first half put UAM up by one, 30-29. The Blossoms closed out the second quarter with a 7-2 run and led 37-31 at the half. Caldwell led Ouachita with 11 first-half points. 

Turnovers hurt the Lady Tigers in the third quarter. Seven turnovers led to UAM outscoring Ouachita 24-15 in the third frame. Offensively, Ouachita was led by Brittain, who scored seven of her 12 second-half points in the third. Back-to-back threes gave UAM a 16-point lead heading into the final quarter of play. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Tigers began to work th ball inside. A 10-1 run by the Lady Tigers cut the Blossoms' lead to seven with 3:43 left to play in the game. The Lady Tigers weren't able to close the gap. Chasidee Owens, who scored all 11 of her points in the second half, sank a shot at the buzzer but it was not enough.

The Lady Tigers travel to Magnolia on Saturday. They will face Southern Arkansas who stands at 4-10. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
