Hot shooting leads Lady Tigers to victory

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Lady Tigers' basketball team defeated the Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm Saturday afternoon by a final score of 80-73 to notch its second-straight conference victory.

The Lady Tigers opened the game with a good shooting performance and jumped out to an early 24-10 lead with just over two minutes remaining in the first quarter, but the Tigers' shooting touch fell from that point and the Crimson Storm went on a 15-0 run to claim a 25-24 second-quarter lead. The Lady Tigers finally responded with a big three-pointer from Taylor Bowles to reclaim a 27-25 lead, but Southern Nazarene's run meant the score would be close throughout. Ouachita only led by two points at halftime and trailed by three heading into the fourth quarter, but a 12-0 run over five minutes in the fourth quarter gave the Lady Tigers a five-point lead and eventually a victory.

The Lady Tigers' victory can be accredited in a large part to their solid three-point shooting and their ability to get to the free-throw line. Ouachita shot 50 percent from behind the three-point line and made 12 three-pointers in the game. Three Lady Tigers – Madison Brittain, Taylor Bowles, Kori Bullard and Morgan Miller – converted three three-pointers each. The Tigers also were able to get to the foul line 29 times in the contest. Bowles made nine of nine free-throws while Chasidee Owens got to the free-throw line ten times.

Leading the scoring effort for the Lady Tigers was Bowles with 20 points. Helping was Miller with 16, Bulllard with 11 and Brittain with nine.

The Lady Tigers' next game will be played against Williams Baptist Saturday afternoon.
