ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Tigers' baseball team lost in ten innings to Oklahoma Baptist, 5-4 on Friday afternoon at Rab Rodgers Field. The Tigers now stand at 2-7 overall and 0-1 in Great American Conference play.
Kyle Alexander finished the day going 3-3 at the plate with two RBI.
Preston Speers went 2-5 with two RBI and a game-tying homerun in the bottom of the ninth.
Oklahoma Baptist opened the game with a run in the top of the first. Ouachita got the run right back in the bottom of the first when
Preston Speers hit an RBI single to center field.
Justin Weigle scored the opening run for Ouachita on the hit. The Bison scored two more in the top of second and one in the top of the fifth to take a 4-1 lead over the Tigers.
Ryan Hammer led off the bottom of the fifth with a double down the left field line. A sacrifice bunt by
Jakahari Howell moved Hammer to third. After a walk to Weigle,
Kyle Alexander smacked a two-run double and cut the Bison lead to 4-3.
Kason Kimbrell entered the game in relief in the top of the seventh inning for Ouachita and held the Bison scoreless through the top half of the ninth. With the Tigers down one, Speers blasted a home run over the left field wall with two outs, tying the game at 4-4. Oklahoma Baptist scored one run in the top of the 10th inning to retake the lead, 5-4. The Tigers had an opportunity to tie the game in the bottom of the tenth but stranded two base runners to end the game.
John Franklin Matros got the start for Ouachita. He struck out five through six innings and allowed four runs. Kimbrell took the loss for the Tigers, allowing one run on two hits through 3.2 innings of work in relief.
Justin Weigle went 1-3 in the game and scored two runs. Both teams return to action on Saturday with a double-header scheduled at Rab Rodgers Field. First pitch for game one is set for noon.
