Tigers lose close one in doubleheader thriller

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Tigers' softball team (10-12, 4-6 GAC) dropped both games of a Sunday afternoon doubleheader against the Harding Lady Bisons (19-3, 9-1 GAC). The Tigers lost the first game by a score of 5-3 and the second by a score of 5-4.

Harding opened the first game with five runs in the top of the first inning. The Tigers were never able to surmount that lead, despite scoring one run in the bottom of the first and two runs in the fourth inning. Sarah Johnson drove in the run in the first inning by singling to right field, while Jordan Fielder and Natalie Jackson picked up the RBI's in the fourth inning. Macy Nantz was the starting pitcher for the game.

The Tigers played very well in the second game of the doubleheader, but were unable to fend off a late comeback from the Lady Bisons. Ouachita had a 4-2 lead heading into the seventh inning, with runs coming off of a fourth inning Daniella Brantley single and a sixth inning two-run home run from Sarah Johnson. Harding was able to score three runs in the seventh inning to win the game by a final score of 5-4. Kelsey O'Brien was the starting pitcher in the game, pitching into the seventh inning and striking out three batters.

The Tigers will finish their series against the Lady Bisons tomorrow, Monday, Mar. 13, with a doubleheader. Games will begin at 1 and 3 p.m.
