ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Tigers' softball team snapped a 10-game losing streak with a 7-3 win over East Central University (17-11, 8-8) on Saturday at Sully Anderson Field. After being narrowly defeated in game one, 5-4, Ouachita responded with a seven-run bottom of the fifth in game two to get the win and improve to 11-17 overall and 5-11 in in conference play.
Macy Nantz drove in five with a pair of home runs on the day.
Marissa Butler earned her fourth win of the season, striking out five.
Ouachita jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of game one.
Sarah Johnson singled to start the inning and scored on two-run homer by
Macy Nantz. The score remained unchanged until the top of the fifth inning when East Central scored five runs to take a three-run lead. A bases-loaded single by
Kelly Powell in the bottom of the sixth cut the ECU lead to two. The Tigers entered the bottom of the seventh down 5-3. With two outs,
Natalie Jackson singled home
Daniella Brantley, cutting the lead to 5-4. The rally fell short and Ouachita dropped game one by a final of 5-4.
In game two, ECU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Ouachita answered with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Powell led the inning off with a single and swiped second base.
Halley Ryburn singled the opposite way to put runners on the corner with one out.
Madison Crosby tied the game at 1-1 with an infield single to score Powell. Johnson doubled home a run to put Ouachita up 2-1. Nantz followed with a three-run homer to left extending the lead to 5-1. The lead increased to 7-1 on a single by Jackson after ECU committed a two-run throwing error. ECU tacked on two runs in the top of the sixth, but would do no more damage. Ouachita won game two by a final of 7-3.
