ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Tigers' baseball team fell to 13-31 overall and 10-19 in GAC play after dropping both games of a doubleheader versus Southwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday in Weatherford, Okla. Ouachita 3-2 in game one and 8-6 in game two.
John Franklin Matros got the start in game one and was perfect through six innings. The Tigers took a 1-0 lead with one out in the top of the seventh inning when
Kord Offenbacker singled through the left side, scoring Kye Alexander who opened the inning ith a single to center. SWOSU opened the bottom of the seventh with a leadoff double, their first hit and base runner of the game. Southwestern would score two unearned runs in the inning and hold a 2-1 lead into the top of the ninth inning.
Austin White led the inning off with a double and later advanced to third on a wild pitch. Offenbacker picked up his second RBI of the game with game-tying double down the right field line. In the bottom of the ninth, Southwestern scored the game-winning run with a bases loaded single. Matros went eight innings in the loss, allowing three runs, all unearned, on two hits. He struck out eight and walked none.
Southwestern jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of game two. Ouachita got a run back in the top of the second inning when
Ty Owens singled up the middle to score Offenbacker. In the fourth, Owens and Offenbacker each drove in a run to cut te SWOSU lead to 6-3. SWOSU answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth.
Preston Speers picked up a RBI double for the Tigers in the top of the fifth.
Down 8-4 in the sixth, Ouachita's
Justin Weigle and
Austin White picked up RBIs to make it a two-run game, down 8-6. The Tigers put two men on in the seventh but couldn't get a run across.
Jayme Lovelace took the loss for Ouachita.
Logan Huneycutt struck out five in four inning of relief work while
Brandon Matros pitched 1-1 scoreless innings.
