Tigers split doubleheader on Senior Day

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Tigers' softball team improved to 19-31 overall and 13-25 in conference play after splitting a doubleheader with Southwestern Oklahoma State. The Tigers took game one by a score of 2-1 and fell in game two, 4-2. Seniors Daniella Brantley and Macy Nantz were honored in a special ceremony between games.

Marissa Butler got the start in game one and delivered a gem. She held Southwestern Oklahoma State to just two hits while striking out seven batters and walking none. Her victory was her ninth win and eighth complete game this season. The Bulldogs took an early 1-0 lead on a solo homerun in the second inning. In the bottom of the third inning, Sarah Johnson tied the game with a two-out solo homerun over the left field wall. Johnson got her second hit of the game in the sixth with a leadoff single. With two outs, Natalie Jackson singled home the go-ahead run. Scoring on the hit was Chelsea Wilson who was a pinch runner for Johnson. Butler retired the side in order in the seventh, getting her seventh strikeout of the game on the final out.

In game two, the Bulldogs scored runs in the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead. Natalie Jackson scored the Tigers' first run in the bottom of the third inning, cutting their deficit to 2-1. The Bulldogs had the bases loaded with no outs in the top of the fifth inning. Macy Nantz entered the circle in relief and allowed only one run before recording the third out. Southwestern took a 4-1 lead in the top of the sixth on a solo homerun. Nantz led off the bottom half of the inning with a solo shot to left, leaving the Tigers trailing 4-2. The Tigers went down in order in the bottom of the seventh, ending the game with a 4-2 deficit.

The two teams will conclude their series tomorrow, April 24, with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
