ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Tigers' softball team (21-31, 15-25 GAC) swept a doubleheader over Southwestern Oklahoma State (18-30, 12 -26 GAC) Monday afternoon.
The Tigers soundly defeated the Bulldogs in both games of the doubleheader. Ouachita won the first game by a final score of 8-1 and the second by a final score of 10-2.
The first game was dominated by the Tigers from the beginning. Ouachita scored five runs in the second inning and never looked back. Ouachita had twelve hits in the game and four different Tigers had RBI. Hailey Ryburn hit a solo home run in the game.
Marissa Butler pitched a complete game for the Tigers and earned her 10th win of the season. Butler struck out four batters.
The second game was also dominated by the Tigers. SWOSU jumped to an early 1-0 lead after the top of the first inning, but Ouachita quickly responded with two runs in the bottom of the second. A big third inning, including two RBI from
Macy Nantz, saw the Tigers take a 7-1 lead, and their victory was locked in. Nantz was the starting pitcher in the game and threw three strikeouts.
Macy Nantz had two hits and five RBI on the day for the Tigers, while
Kelly Powell had five hits and three RBI.
The two wins today give the Tigers a 3-1 series win over the Bulldogs.
Ouachita will travel to Shawnee, Okla., next weekend to face Oklahoma Baptist. Games will begin on Friday, April 28 at 4 p.m.
