ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Tigers' softball team (16-24, 10-18 GAC) split a home doubleheader against Arkansas-Monticello (16-12, 19-7) on Friday afternoon.
The Tigers lost the first game by a score of 3-9, but rebounded to win the second by a score of 5-3.
Marissa Butler pitched a complete game in the win and struck out twelve batters, while only walking one.
Macy Nantz had four hits over the two games, including a two-run home run to open the second.
The first game was very close in the beginning stages until UAM scored five runs in the sixth inning to build an expansive lead. The two teams were tied going into the sixth inning, with the score being 3-3.
Jordan Fielder picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first, while
Sarah Johnson and
Daniella Brantley picked up one RBI each in the fifth. A big sixth inning saw the Blossoms build an 8-3 lead, and the Tigers were never able to come back.
Kelsey O'Brien started the game for the Tigers and struck out six batters.
The second game was another close one, but the Tigers were able to come out on top. UAM opened the game with a solo home run in the top of the first, but
Macy Nantz responded in the bottom of the inning with a home run of her own. Nantz's home run drove in two runs. Ouachita extended their 2-1 in the fifth inning when
Daniella Brantley hit a two-run single and
Kelly Powell hit an RBI single. UAM scored twice in the sixth, but were unable to surmount the Tiger lead as Ouachita won the game by a score of 5-3.
The Tigers will finish the home series against the Blossoms tomorrow with games at 12 and 2 p.m.
