ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Tigers' softball team (16-26, 10-20) dropped both games of the series-finale doubleheader versus Arkansas-Monticello (27-11, 20-6) on Saturday at Sully Anderson Field in Arkadelphia. The Tigers were in both games late, falling by a final score of 1-0 in game one and 7-5 in game two.
Kelly Powell went 4-6 on the day, scoring one and swiping two bases.
Marissa Butler struck out seven batter in game two, giving her 19 punch outs for the series.
Macy Nantz got the start in game one and allowed only three hits in 6.2 innings. She did not allow a walk in the game and the lone run she allowed was unearned. The Tigers committed two errors in the top of the fifth that allowed a Blossom base runner to advance to third.A two-out single drove in the game's only run and gave UAM the 1-0 lead. Powell led off the bottom of the seventh with a single and then stole second. She tagged and moved to third on a fly out to left, but was called out on an appeal after a questionable call that she left early from second base. Ouachita would fall 1-0.Â
In game two, Ouachita found themselves down 2-0 heading into the bottom fo the fourth.
Kelly Powell and
Natalie Jackson got the rally going in the fourth with one-out singles.
Macy Wilson singled to center, scoring Powell from second.
Natalie Jackson later scored on a two-out single to left by
Madison Crosby. With the game tied at 2-2, UAM regained the lead with a two-run homerun in the top of the fifth.
Ouachita came right back in the bottom of the fifth inning. With the first two runner aboard, Powell moved both runners into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Jackson drove in a run with a single. Wilson followed with a RBI bunt to tie the game at 4-4. With two outs,
KJ Keeley smashed a pinch-hit single to right center, scoring pinch runner
Cassie Cantu, and giving the Tigers a 5-4 lead. UAM tied the game at 5-5 in the top of the sixth and took a 7-5 lead in the top of the seventh.
Halley Ryburn and
Sarah Johnson both reached base with two-out singles in the bottom of the seventh but the TIgers could not complete the rally for the win.
Marissa Butler struck out seven batters in six innings but did not factor in the decision. Â
