Tigers Complete Season Sweep of Southern Arkansas

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Ouachita volleyball team hit .545 in the fourth set to pull out a 3-1 victory over the Southern Arkansas Muleriders on Tuesday evening.

Ouachita (21-8, 10-5 GAC) finishes off the season sweep of Southern Arkansas (8-20, 2-13 GAC) for the third consecutive season. The win also gives the Tigers six consecutive over Southern Arkansas dating back to the 2015 season. 

Adrianna Nolly (Denton, Texas) and Katie Camp (Plano, Texas) both ended the night with double-digit kills in the contest. Nolly finished with a team high 17, while Camp contributed 14 kills to the cause.

Senior setter Stormi Leonard (Decatur, Texas) added 47 assists and eight digs. Libero Julianna Mack (Little Rock, Ark.) led the team with 20 digs in the match, Shannon Hogan (Plano, Texas) and Hannah Johnston (Greenwood, Ark.) both added 12 digs in the contest.

Ouachita and Southern Arkansas battled point-for-point in the opening frame. Through the first 24 points of the set, the match remained tied at 12 all. Then the Tigers ripped off a four-point run to take the momentum away from the Muleriders. Southern Arkansas then came back and tied the opening frame at 17 all. Eventually, Ouachita closed out the set 25-23.

The second set belonged to the Tigers as they raced out to an early 9-4 run. The Muleriders attempted to keep the set close but the Tigers closed the set on an 8-1 run.

Southern Arkansas came out firing in the third set. The Muleriders raced out to a 6-0 lead, prompting Ouachita head volleyball coach Allison Frizzell-Kizer to call timeout. The timeout did not stop the bleeding as Southern Arkansas expanded their lead to 12-1. Slowly the Tigers began to work their way back into the set, a 5-0 run brought the Tigers within four of the Muleriders. The early lead was too much to overcome as Southern Arkansas took the third set 25-17.

Ouachita and Southern Arkansas battled in the early parts of the fourth set before the Tigers began to pull away with a 9-3 run to make it 15-11, Ouachita. The Tigers ended the set on a 9-2 run as they captured the fourth and decisive set.
