WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Division II Conference Commissioners Association announced the 2018 All-America teams on Wednesday afternoon; Ouachita Baptist defensive back
Keandre Evans (Junction City, Ark.) and offensive lineman
Justin Gooseberry (Little Rock, Ark.) were both named to the first team.
Ouachita is the only Great American Conference affiliate to have two players named to the publications All-America squads. The Tiger football team had one of the most historical seasons in program history, finishing with a school record 12 wins.
For Gooseberry this marks his second All-America honor this season. The senior right tackle earned Second Team All-America honors from the American Football Coaches Association earlier this month. The Little Rock native also earned D2CCA First Team All-Region honors, was a unanimous First Team All-Great American Conference selection for the second consecutive season and was a nominee for the Gene Upshaw Award. Earlier this year, Gooseberry was tabbed a preseason All-American by
College Football America Yearbook. Gooseberry helped anchor an offensive line that paved the way for one of the top rushing offenses in the nation, averaging 277.6 yards per game this season.
This is Evans first All-America honor, the Junction City native burst onto the national scene with an electrifying 100 plus yard interception return for a touchdown against Arkansas Tech. Within 48 hours the highlight had been shown ESPN, NFL on Fox and NBC's Sunday Night Football. Evans led the team in interceptions (4), pass breakups (14) and finished third on the team total tackles with 68. The Junction City native led one of the top secondary's in the nation, as a whole the Tiger defense produced 19 interceptions, 49 pass breakups and allowed just five passing touchdowns all season. Earlier this season, Evans was named a First Team All-Region selection and a First Team All-GAC selection.
