Tiger's Hot Start Thwarted by Harding's Big Second Half

Arkadelphia, Ark. – Ouachita Baptist Men's Basketball came out firing, but they could not finish as the Harding Bisons used a late rally to outlast the Tigers, 86-84. 
 
 
Senior guard Mahlon Martin scored a team high 15 points while also adding six rebounds and four assists. Martin carried the Tigers down the stretch scoring the only eight points of the last five minutes. Fellow guard, Trey Harris added 11 points, four rebounds, and five assists for the Tigers.
 
Ouachita started the game shooting extremely well from the field. They connected on their first three buckets of the game and the drained the first six of seven, building a seven point lead at 14-7. 
 
The Bisons (5-4, 3-1) tied the game at 14 all after a 7-0 run, but the Tigers  went on a 6-0 run of their own lead by sophomore Matt Stanley to increase the score to 20-14 with 12:49 left in the first. The largest lead of the game for the Tigers was 14 with 4:09 in the first half as Trey Harris knocked down two free throws. Ouachita, led by Trey Harris's 10 points,  went into the half up 11 points, 46-35. 
 
The second half started the fight for Ouachita as the Bisons stormed back, cutting the lead to 48-42 in just 1:18. They were led by sophomore guard Romen Martin who had 19 of his 21 points in the second half. However, the Tigers kept the lead until the 4:28 mark in the second half where Harding took a 76-78 lead. Ouachita took the lead back at 79-78 at the 2:49 mark with a three from Mahlon Martin. Harding responded with an Adam Horn layup  (19 points) and never gave the lead back up.

  • Ouahita shot 56 percent (18-32) in the first half but only shot 39 percent (15-38) in the second.
  • The Tigers out rebounded the Bisons 37-33 which included 13 offensive rebounds.

Ouachita falls to 1-3 in the GAC and 4-4 on the year. They return to Bill Vining Arena on Tuesday December 18 to face Talladega College at 1:00 pm.
