Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Tigers men's basketball team used a 53-point second half to beat fellow Great American Conference rival Harding 91-67 on Thursday night.
"Our guys really shot the ball well in the second half." Ouachita head men's basketball coach
Dennis Nutt said, "We hadn't had much fun, recently we've been grinding through two and one possession games."
The Tigers offense was electric in the second half as they shot 62.1 percent from the floor and 56.3 percent from beyond the three-point arch. It was just the second time all season Ouachita (10-13, 8-10 GAC) had crossed the 90-point margin in a game and it was their first time accomplishing the feat in a non-overtime game.
Some key numbers to look at in the Tigers victory, they out rebounded the Bison 41-23, scored 38-points inside the paint, 21-points off turnovers, 17 second chance points and had 18 fast break points in the contest.
The Thursday night victory against Harding (4-19, 4-14 GAC) snaps a two game losing streak for the Tigers.
The first half was close between the two squads as Ouachita went into halftime up 38-36. Percentage wise the Tigers shot 48.3 percent from the field while limiting Harding to 37 percent shooting. The only reason the Bison were even close to the Tigers at halftime was because of the 9 three-pointers made in the first half.
The second half was a completely different story as Harding made just 11 shots in the entire half of play.
With 15:43 to play in the second half Adam Horn hit a layup and the Bison were within a single point of the Tigers. Harding never came close to taking the lead again the rest of the game.
Ouachita went on a 17-3 run in a four-and-a-half minutes to take a 64-49 advantage. It was show time for the Tigers offense the rest of the half as they rained down a barrage of three-pointers on the Bison. When they were not knocking down three pointers the Tigers were feeding the post to freshman forward Matt Stanley (Cabot, Ark.).
Stanley finished a rebound shy of collecting his first career double-double, it is the third consecutive game in which the freshman has come off the bench to score in double figures. Tonight, Stanley finished with 17 points in the contest to lead the Tigers.
For the 15
th game this season Mahlon Martin (Little Rock, Ark.) scored in double figures as he ended the game with 15 points. Kendarious Smith (Canton, Miss.) finished the night with 14 points in the game, making it the freshman's 10
th game of the season with double figure scoring.
Senior guard
Jordan Corbitt (Frisco, Texas) finished the game a perfect 4-4 from three-point range as he collected 12-points in the contest.
Zac Ward lead all scorers with 19 points in the contest for Harding but was a non-factor for much of the second half.
The Tigers will travel to Arkansas Monticello on Saturday afternoon as they look to keep the offense rolling. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
