SHAWNEE, Okla. – The Ouachita women's soccer team lost to Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 2-1 at Jim Darnell Field.
Both Ouachita (3-4, 1-1 GAC) and Oklahoma Baptist (4-4, 2-0 GAC) seemed pretty even for the most part of the first half of play. The Tigers edged out the Bison in total shots with eight in the first period.
Oklahoma Baptist came out firing in the opening moments of the first half, out shooting the Tigers 4-1 in the opening 15 minutes of playing time. The Tigers offense and defense stuck to their game plan and methodically worked the Bison down the field on multiple occasions.
At the 42 minute mark of the contest the Tigers defense stood strong and held off three consecutive corner kick attempts by the Bison. After the final corner kick, the Tigers were able to clear the ball towards the attacking third of the pitch.
Jaymee Dotson (Princeton, Texas) dribbled the ball and then hit a cross pass to the left side of the field.
Natalia Arteaga (Chatsworth, Calif.) took the pass and finished with a shot that found the top right corner of the net.
The goal gave the Tigers a 1-0 advantage heading into the halftime break.
After halftime it was all Oklahoma Baptist, the Bison outshot the Tigers 15-3 in the second half of play. Oklahoma Baptist found the net in both the 51
st minute and 59
th minute of action.
Erin Webster (Alvin, Texas) finished the day with seven saves, while
Ashlyn Heckman (Frisco, Texas) led the offense with four shots on goal.
Ouachita will hopefully, get to play their first home game of the season on Thursday afternoon against Southwestern Oklahoma State. The Tigers will also play a homecoming game against Northwestern Oklahoma State next Saturday at 2 p.m.
