ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita volleyball team went error less free in the final set of play as the Tigers defeated Oklahoma Baptist in five sets on Saturday evening.
The victory gives Ouachita (15-6, 4-3 GAC) a four match winning streak and the Tigers once again have a winning record in Great American Conference play.
For the second consecutive night, the Tigers offense produced four double-digit kill performers.
Katie Camp (Plano, Texas) collected one of two double-doubles on the night for the Tigers. Camp recorded 19 kills and scooped up 10 digs in the win.
Tabatha Huckabee (North Richland Hills, Texas) contributed 17 kills, while
Adrianna Nolly (Denton, Texas) registered 15 kills and four blocks in the contest. This is the ninth time this season that Nolly has recorded at least 15 kills in a match. Freshman
Emily Low (Austin, Texas) added 10 kills in the match to round out the offense for Ouachita.
Senior setter
Stormi Leonard (Decatur, Texas) continued her stellar week with 59 assists and 20 digs in the contest against Oklahoma Baptist (11-12, 4-3 GAC). It was the third time this season Leonard had recorded at least 50 assists in a match, this was also her seventh double-double of the season.
A pair of sophomore back row players came up big for the Tigers on the defensive side of the ball. Libero
Julianna Mack (Little Rock, Ark.) registered at least 30 digs for the third consecutive match.
Shannon Hogan (Plano, Texas) reset her career high in digs with 20 scoops on the night for the Tigers.
Oklahoma Baptist had a trio of players finish with double-digit kills as well. Mikayla Watson led the team with 26 kills and 23 digs, while Malia Leatherland registered 23 kills in the contest and Nicole Fleitman rounded out the offensive attack with 10 kills.
Throughout the opening frame, the two teams battled for each point. Neither team was able to gain much distance from the other until the 20-20 mark in the first stanza. The Bison won three consecutive points to take a 23-20 advantage late in the opening set. The late run helped Oklahoma Baptist take the opening set 25-22.
The Tigers came out hot in the second set, taking eight of the first eleven points in the set. Once again though the Bison stuck around like a thorn in the side of the Tigers. Tied at 24 it was anyone's set and the Tigers could not afford to dig their way out of a two set hole. Back-to-back Camp kills ensured that the Tigers would take the second set.
The third set was not much different from the opening two sets. Both teams battled and scrapped for every point in the set. Ouachita staved off two set points and eventually won the set 29-27.
In the fourth set the Tigers and Bison's once again matched each other point for point. If one team went on a run the other team followed suit. Eventually Oklahoma Baptist broke the tie and raced out to a 22-17 advantage. The Tigers fourth set rally came up short as the Bison forced a decisive fifth set.
The final set belonged to Ouachita; the Tigers would not be denied a win on homecoming Saturday. Ouachita raced out to an 11-2 lead and coasted to a 15-6 fifth set win in front of a raucous crowd.
The Tigers will have six days off before they make their first trip to Oklahoma this season. Ouachita will face off against Southeastern Oklahoma State on Friday night at 7 p.m. For all the latest news on Ouachita volleyball go to obutigers.com or the official social media accounts of Ouachita Athletics.
