ARKADELPHIA, Ark. –
David Stankovic headed in a cross from
Ryan Shaughnessy in the second half of overtime as Tigers take down #25 Rogers State University 2-1.
Ouachita started the scoring on the day with a first half goal from
Matt Heffernan. Heffernan rifled in a shot from the left side of the pitch over the goalie's head into the top right of the goal giving Ouachita the early 1-0 lead.
The Tigers kept the lead for the rest of the first half going into the half up on the 25
th ranked team in the nation. Rogers State evened the score quickly in the second on a goal by Jordan Watson on an assist from Chris Sowder.
It took one and a half overtime periods before on a fast break Stankovic back heeled a pass to Shaughnessy who broke away down the right side of the pitch. He drew the goalie to him before sending a cross straight to the diving Stankovic who headed in the goal giving the Tigers the win.
Putting in the most shots attempted on the season, the Tigers riffled 20 shots during the match. Of those shots nine were on goal.
Alexis Lara and
Abraham Lazo led the Tigers with five shots each both having two on goal. All but two of the starters for the Tigers accounted for a shot in the game.
Matt Day started in goal for Ouachita and played all 90 minutes for the Tigers. He faced 22 shots from the Bulldogs saving all 9 of them that were on goal.
The Tigers will be back in action next Thursday, Oct. 17 at 3:00 p.m. as they are back at Kluck Field against Oklahoma Baptist University.
