ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Using an all-around team effort, the Ouachita Tigers blew by East Central with a final of 3-0 at Sturgis Physical Education Center.
Freshman
Karli Ferguson shined for the Tigers in her first career start in the purple and gold. She accounted for seven kills on 11 attempts with no errors giving her an .646 hitting percentage. She also added in two block assists and an assist in the game.
Three Tigers led the way in kills as
Emily Low,
Katie Camp and
Abby Cagle all had eight kills on the night. Camp had a team high in points as not only did she have eight kills but also put in two service aces and two block assists. Low would also be a pest for ECU on the defensive end accumulating three blocks and three digs.
Lexie Castillow had a great night for Ouachita leading the team with 23 digs and three service aces.
Temi Fayiga shared the ball around well all night putting in 21 assists and even scoring on two out of three of her attempts.
The Tigers jumped out quickly on East Central capturing a 6-3 lead behind two kills apiece from
Abby Cagle and
Emily Low. The set went back and forth between the two teams before Ouachita went on a 6-1 run to take a 20-16 lead. On the run the Tigers were led by
Rileigh Fielder's block and
Katie Camp's two kills. The set ended with Ouachita up 25-19 as they took the 1-0 advantage.
The second set was like the first as Ouachita exploded out to a 10-3 lead capped off by two kills by
Rileigh Fielder. After East Central closed the gap with a run of their own, the Tigers went on an 8-1 run extending their lead to 19-9. Ferguson shined on the run accounting for three of Ouachita's points. The Tigers closed out the set winning it 25-15 and giving them a 2-0 lead.
The Tigers took advantage in the third jumping out to a huge 13-4 lead.
Audrey Gallagher picked up a huge block in the frame for the Tigers. Later on in the set freshman
Abi Roberts put in two great digs helping the Tigers close out ECU. The match was capped off by
Tabatha Huckabee's strike down the line giving the Tigers a 25-14 set win and a clean sweep of East Central.
Ouachita is back in action tomorrow night, Friday, Oct. 18 at 5:00 p.m. as they battle Southeastern Oklahoma State at Sturgis Physical Education Center. Come out and support your Tigers!
