Jakyya Clay shines against Southwest Minnesota State

Wichita, Kan. – The Tigers traveled to Wichita, Kan to face the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs. Ouachita fought hard, but ultimately fell 76-50. 

 

Jakyya Clay led the way for the Tigers scoring 12 points off of a 44.0% field goal percentage.She also added 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal in her 26 minute appearance for the Tigers. Madison Raney also had some solid play off the bench for Ouachita scoring 10 points and grabbing 6 boards in 27 minutes.

 

Ouachita started the game strong with a 3-point basket from Jessi Bennett. The lead continued to go back and forth between the teams, but an 8-0 run late in the quarter by the Mustangs would put them up over the Tigers 23-13 at the end of the first quarter.

 

As the second quarter began, the Tigers looked to battle back and take the lead. Ouachita would open the quarter with two made free throws from Jessi Bennet and a layup from Madison Raney to cut the Southwest Minnesota Sate lead to 9. Two more free throws from Jakyya Clay and a 3-point basket from Madison Brittain would make it a 30-22 Mustang lead with 6:36 left in the first half. Southwestern Minnesota State would make a 13-0 run in the second quarter and would take a 49-25 lead over Ouachita at the end of the first half.

 

In the third quarter, Ouachita would see solid play from Maija Gerstone and Jakyya Clay as they continued to battle back in the game. Eden Crow and Madison Rainey led the way for the Tigers in the fourth quarter. Southwest Minnesota State would take the win over Ouachita 76-50.
