Arkadelphia, Ark. – The Tiger's baseball team (1-2 GAC, 5-5 Overall) capped off the series against Arkansas Tech with a 9-8 win.
Junior
Brandon Matros took the mound for the Tigers on Sunday and pitched five and two-thirds innings. Matros gave up three runs on the day and threw for five strikeouts in his start.
In the third inning, The Tigers plated two runs off of a solo-homerun by senior
Aaron Studdard and a two-out single by
Hunter Gautreaux to score
Tyler Riebock and give Ouachita the 2-0 lead.
In the top of the fifth and sixth innings, the Wonder Boys took back the lead 3-2. However, the Tigers came to life in the bottom of the sixth inning, as Freshman
Kade Stuart drew a walk with one out and the bases loaded to tie things up at 3-3. Two batters later, Studdard hit a fastball up the middle to score two-runs and give the Tigers the lead again 5-3. The Tigers were not done at the plate as Sophomore
Louis Steen added three insurance runs on a homerun over the left field fence.
With the score 8-3, the Tigers went into the top of the inning with confidence. Arkansas Tech responded by scoring five runs in the inning, until Sophomore
Carter Wade came in and recorded the final out.
After entering into the eighth inning, the Tigers knew they needed to score a run.
Kade Stuart answered the call with a leadoff single to right field, before he was moved to second base on a
Pierce Mitchum bunt. Studdard walked in the next at bat. Steen came up next and hit a ground ball to the third basemen in what the Wonder Boy's thought would end the inning, but a throwing error by the second-baseman sent Stuart home and secured the 9-8 lead.
Carter Wade took the mound in the top of the ninth inning and saw the first batter fly out to Junior
Logan Huneycutt at second base. The Wonder Boys brought in a pinch hitter who grounded out to Studdard at shortstop. Arkansas Tech hit a double to left-centerfield to put a runner in scoring position, but the next batter grounded out to Studdard for the final out to give Ouachita its first conference victory of the year, 9-8.
Carter Wade (1-0) picked up his first win of the season along with his second save for the week. Studdard finished the day with three hits in four at-bats, including: three RBI's, two runs, a walk and a homerun.
The Tigers will take a one-game winning-streak into Wednesday for a non-conference game against Texas A&M-Texarkana at 3:00 before traveling to the University of Arkansas at Monticello this weekend.
