PLANO, Texas – Women's Tennis capture first regular season win of the year in Collin College Super Six Tournament over the weekend.
The Tigers faced off in three matchups during the weekend and defeated New Mexico Military Institute to give Coach
Rachel Jones her first Tiger regular season victory.
In the first match the Tigers would face off against host Collin College. In the doubles matchups the Ouachita duos would all fight hard but fall in the end putting the Tigers down 0-3. However, in the singles matchups the Tigers roared back to make the match close.
Haylee Cannon would start the Tigers off by defeating her Conner opponent 1-6, 6-5 (retired).
Lindsay Gills would follow in suit as she defeated her foe 6-4, 6-3. Sophomore
Claire Phillips would also capture a victory as she won her match 2-6, 7-6, 10-8. The Tigers would drop the match 6-3 in the first game of the weekend.
The Tigers would take on New Mexico Military Institute for the second matchup of the weekend. Ouachita's doubles teams came out strong as
Taylor Hansard and
Lindsay Gills won their match and
Claire Phillips and
Shirley Hernandez defeated their NMMI opponents.
In singles the Tigers won five out of six matchups sealing the victory for Ouachita.
Haylee Cannon defeated Teally of NMMI 4-6, 6-4, 10-5.
Taylor Hansard follow Cannon up with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over the NMMI foe.
Lindsay Gills,
Claire Phillips and
Shirley Hernandez all won matchups give in the Tigers a 7-2 victory over New Mexico Military Institute.
In the last matchup the Tigers would take on North Central Texas College. Ouachita would jump out quickly as the duo of
Mallory Tabler and
Haylee Cannon defeated the NCTC foe 8-4. The Tigers could not close out the rest of the doubles and entered singles play trailing 1-2. In singles the one and two seeds put in work for the Tigers.
Mallory Tabler closed her weekend out strong with an 7-5, 6-2 win over Nulens from NCTC.
Haylee Cannon completed her weekend going undefeated in singles with a 1-0 (retired) victory. The Tigers in the end would drop the match 6-3.
The Tennis team returns to action at home Friday February 22 against Angelo State University at 5:00 PM. Come out and support your Tiger's Women's Tennis team!
