ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Ouachita Women's Tennis team continues to improve this season as they faced off against Angelo State, Delta State and Mississippi College over the weekend.
The Tigers were led in the battles by
Haylee Cannon and
Lindsay Gills. The two freshmen showed out each capturing a win on the weekend.
In the first matchup against Angelo State the Tigers came in with a 2-5 record. In the double's matchups the duo of
Mallory Tabler and
Kendra Dinsmore competed extremely hard with their Angelo State foes, but they would fall in the end on a final of 6-4. Ouachita would drop the remaining two doubles matches and enter singles play trailing 0-1.
Lindsay Gills was the player of the match for the Tigers as she faced off against Dreaux of Angelo State. Gills would drop the first set 2-6 but would show her determination coming back and winning the second set 6-3. Carrying the momentum from her second set win, Gills would win the tie-breaker set 10-6. The Tigers, however, would lose the game 6-1 against Angelo State.
The Tigers would face off with Mississippi College in the second match of the weekend. Tabler and Dinsmore would start off doubles play with a strong showing going into a tie-breaker with the Mississippi College opponents. The duo would heartbreakingly lose the tie-breaker on a score of 7-6(4). The duo of
Claire Phillips and
Lindsay Gills would give life to the Tigers as they would capture a win against their foes 6-4. Ouachita would drop the third doubles matchups to allow MC to carry a 1-0 lead into singles.
Haylee Cannon would be triumphant in her match as she went toe to toe with Cota from Mississippi College. She would win the first set 7-5 but drop the second 3-6. In the tie-break Cannon would go off clinching the win 7-5, 3-6, 10-6. The Tigers would fall to Mississippi College in the end 1-6.
The Tigers would face Delta State with the last match of the weekend. The duo of
Haylee Cannon and
Taylor Hansard would dominate Delta State's Owen and Stelzer with a score of 6-2. However, the Tigers could not get anything else to go and Delta State took the win.
Ouachita will return to action on Friday March 1 as they take on William Jewel College at 4:00 PM at Ward Tennis Center.
