Tigers Take Series with OKBU

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Ouachita Tiger's Softball splits Sunday double header to take the series against Oklahoma Baptist and move to 5-3 in conference.

Freshman Leighton Withers led the Tigers on the day going 2-4 with a double and a homerun. She drove in two runs and scored two runs of her own. Marissa Butler had another strong outing winning her second game of the weekend. Butler would go all seven innings only allowing five hits and two runs.

In the first game the Tigers would push their winning streak to five in a row off of seven hits by seven different Ouachita players. Tobi Finley would start the scoring for the Tigers as her double in the third inning would plate Natalie Jackson and Macy Wilson. In the fourth inning Leighton Withers would double to center field scoring Madison Miller, and a few batters later Stephanie McCann would single scoring Withers from third.

The four runs were all Butler needed as she would go through six innings not allowing a run. A seventh inning double with two outs would make the game 4-2, but Butler would respond forcing the last batter to pop out to first giving the Tigers their seventh win of the season.

"The girls are determined and focus on getting better and winning. They are buying into the process and coming together as a cohesive unit," said Interim Coach Leslie Dean after the games on Sunday.

In the second game the Tigers would struggle to find their bats as they would only accumulate three hits. However, Leighton Withers would hit a bomb in the fourth inning to score a run for Ouachita. The Tigers would drop the game 4-1, but they would still clinch the series three wins to one.

Coach Dean on preparing for next weekend's series against Southwestern Oklahoma State, "We will take this week to get after it in preparation for the weekend's home series. We will use these practices to make some adjustments and fix some things as we continue to grow as a team."

The Tigers will take to Sully Anderson Field on Friday, March 15 as they will start the double header against SWOSU at 2:00 PM.
