ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Tigers Softball hits five homeruns in two days but drop two heart breaking games in final innings against Southeastern Oklahoma State.
Macy Wilson continues to have a great month of March as she hits a homerun in each game. She would blast her second grand-slam of the month in the second game giving the Tigers a two run lead in the top of the seventh.
Tobi Finley also had a great day as she went 3-4 with four runs batted in the combined games.
In the first game the Tigers would strike first as
Leighton Withers would walk to start the inning bring
Tori Herbert to the plate. Herbert, who has been playing extremely well over the past week, would hit a homerun down the left field line giving Ouachita the 2-0 lead. They would extend their lead to 3-1
The Tigers, however, would fall behind 8-3 after SEOSU would take the lead on a four run sixth inning.
Madison Miller would attempt to spark a comeback as she would hit a solo homerun in the top of the seventh inning, but the Tigers could not get anything else going as they would fall 8-4.
In the second the game the Tigers would fall behind 2-0 going into the top of the fifth but were led off in the half inning by
Mabry Smith.
Stephanie McCann would pinch hit and beat out an infield single to put runners on first and third.
Tobi Finley would then proceed to hit a pinch hit three run homerun to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead.
In the top of the sixth the Tigers would extend their lead to 4-2 on a two out double by
Leighton Withers and a single by
Samantha Ortiz. In the bottom of the sixth the Tigers would allow SEOSU to take a 6-4 lead.
Natalie Jackson and
Tobi Finley would lead off the seventh inning with doubles cutting the lead to 6-5. After a
Tori Herbert single,
Kyndal Moyer would reach on a fielder's choice to load the bases.
Macy Wilson would then give the Tigers a three run lead on a grand slam to center field. However, the Tigers could not close it out in the bottom of the seventh and would drop the second game.
The Tigers will be back in action tomorrow as they face off with Southeastern Oklahoma State to close out the series. The games will begin at 2:00 PM and you can follow Ouachita Athletics on Facebook and Twitter for all the softball updates.
