BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Ouachita Tigers Tennis suffer heartbreaking loss in the first round of the Great American Conference Tournament to Southeastern Oklahoma State 4-3.
The Tigers led the day off on a high by capturing the Doubles point after two Tiger double wins.
Dan Kaplun and
Santiago Kearney defeated their Savage Storm foes 6-1, and
Nair Adi and
Tobias Fuerschuss defeated Southeastern's Vuckovic and Scoppetta 7-5.
In the singles matches the Tigers went down to the wire with the Savage Storm.
Francisco Oliveira defeated his opponent with a score of 6-3, 7-5.
Dan Kaplun also secured a victory for the Tigers with a 7-5, 6-2 victory against Lena. The Tigers dropped three sets tying the game at 3-3.
The final score came down to the number one singles matchup of number three ranked Juan Scoppetta of Southeastern and
Juan Moncada. The first set went down to the wire as Scoppetta took the 7-6 win. However, Moncada roared back to even the game with a 4-6 set two vitory. In the game winning set Moncada would fall to a score of 6-3.
The week was a success for the Tigers as
Juan Moncada and
Francisco Oliveira took home First Team All-GAC honors.
Dan Kaplun was named to the Second Team All-GAC. The biggest honor of the week for the Tigers was
Francisco Oliveira being named the Great American Conference Freshman of the Year.
