SEARCY, Ark. – Ouachita Volleyball split the first day of the Harding Invitational defeating Christian Brothers 3-2 but falling to 17 Rockhurst 3-0.
The Tigers showed their determination during the Christian Brothers match by coming back to win after being down two sets to none. Outside
Katie Camp set the tone for the Tigers in the win with 15 kills, 18 digs, two aces and two blocks.
Adrianna Nolly continued her hot season with 13 kills on 31 attacks adding in six blocks and four digs.
Tabatha Huckabee tallied 10 kills on the day on 23 attempts and only two errors.
The Tigers battled hard with the Buccaneers dropping the first set 25-22 and the second set 28-26. Ouachita never quit though and started the third set on an 8-2 run led by
Rileigh Fielder who had two sets in the run. The Tigers never looked back using kills by
Temi Fayiga and Camp to close out the 25-15 set win.
The fourth set began with the Tigers jumping out to a 7-4 lead. They extended to 15-10 on a 4-0 run later in the set. Christian Brothers fought back tying the set at 24 all before the Tigers secured the last two points tying the match 2-2.
The Buccaneers began the fifth set by taking a 7-4 lead before extending their advantage to 13-9. Ouachita then kicked it into gear scoring four straight points with a kill by Nolly and three blocks (two by Fielder and Nolly and one by Low).
The Tigers then found themselves with their backs against the wall as Christian Brothers had match point up 14-13. Ouachita captured the win finishing the game scoring three straight. Fielder and Nolly finished the game on a huge block giving the Tigers their sixth win of the season.
In the first match of the day the Tigers squared off against #17 Rockhurst University. In every set the Tigers were neck and neck with Rockhurst for the first 10 points before succumbing 25-13, 25-13, 25-14. Freshman
Audrey Gallagher led the Tigers with five kills in the match.
The Tigers are back in action tomorrow against Missouri S&T at 11:00 a.m. to close out the Harding Invitational.
