JACKSON, Tenn. – The Ouachita Tigers (1-2) came up short in game one 3-13, but earned their first win of the 2020 season after an 8-6 victory in game two over Union University (2-1).
 
 
Game One:
Junior Beau Burson (0-1) made his first start as a Tiger, throwing 3.1 innings. Burson gave up five runs (four earned) on six hits, three walks, and four strikeouts. Junior Hunter Gautreaux (0-0) relieved Burson for 1.2 innings, allowing seven hits, five runs, and two strikeouts. Freshman Maddox Long (0-0) was next in line and pitched a third of an inning, giving up three runs on three hits, a walk, and a strikeout. The final pitcher of the game for the Tigers was senior Sheldon McCown (0-0), who pitched lights out for his two-thirds of an inning.
 
Offensively, the Tigers scored one run in the third and two runs in the sixth inning. Senior Logan Huneycutt singled to left field to plate freshman Cade Burris in the third inning, before junior Louis Steen scored on a fielder's choice ground ball to third base from junior Cole Kelly for the first run in the sixth inning. Pierce Mitchum hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score junior Tyler Riebock for the final run in the sixth inning.
 
Ouachita Highlights:

• Louis Steen went 1 for 2 with a double, run scored, and walk.
• Logan Huneycutt went 1 for 3 with an RBI single, and a strikeout.
• Cade McBride went 1 for 3 with a single and a walk.
• Simmons Sowell went 1 for 3 with a single.
• Josh Salim went 1 for 3 with a single and a strikeout.
• Ouachita's pitching staff struck out seven batters against the Bulldogs.
• Cade Burris (1-1) stole the only base for the Tigers.

 
Union Highlights:

• The Bulldogs scored eight runs in the sixth inning.
• Every starter for the Bulldogs had at least one hit. Six starters had at least two hits.
• Eight starters had at least one RBI in the game.
• Seven starters hit a double for Union.
• Drew Hill finished 2 for 4 with a homerun, a double, three RBI's and two strikeouts.
• Ryan Lee went 3 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
• Patrick Music went 2 for 3 with three RBI's, two walks, a run scored, and a strikeout.
• Walker Adkisson (1-0) picked up the win with six innings of five-hit, three-run (two earned) baseball. He allowed three walks and earned three strikeouts in his outing.

 
 
Game Two:
Junior Noah Fowler (0-0) made his first start of the 2020 season, throwing 4.1 innings. Fowler allowed four runs, three hits, two walks, and gained four strikeouts of the 17 batters he faced. Junior Carter Wade (1-0) picked up the win for the Tigers after 1.1 innings of two-hit, two-run baseball. Logan Huneycutt (0-0) earned the first Tiger save of the season after pitching 1.1 innings of scoreless baseball.
 
The Tiger offense struck first with two runs in the first inning. Blake Tubbs hit a two-run single to center field to plate Huneycutt and Riebock.
 
In the fifth inning, Ouachita would add two more runs, beginning with an RBI single to right field from Tubbs to score Steen. McBride then singled to left field to plate Riebock for the final run in the inning.
 
With the score knotted up 4-4, the Tiger offense exploded for a four-run sixth inning. Huneycutt doubled to right field to score freshman Matt Bryant before Riebock hit a three-run homerun over the right field wall to make it 8-4. The Tigers would hold on for the final two innings defensively to earn their first win of the season.
 
Ouachita Highlights:

• Carter Wade received the first win for the Tigers.
• Logan Huneycutt earned his first save of the season.
• The pitching staff had seven strikeouts against the Bulldogs.
• The Tiger defense did not commit an error in the game.
• 6 of 9 starters had a hit.
• The first four batters for the Tigers (Huneycutt, Steen, Riebock, Tubbs) combined for six hits, six runs, two walks, and seven RBI's in 13 at bats.
• Blake Tubbs went a perfect 4 for 4 with a double, three singles, and three RBI's.
• Tyler Riebock went 1 for 2 with a three-run homerun (3 RBI's), three runs scored, a walk, a hit-by-pitch, and a strikeout. He has reached base safely in every game (three games).
• Logan Huneycutt went 1 for 5 with an RBI double, two runs scored, and two strikeouts. He has a hit in every game this season (three game hit-streak)
• Cade McBride went 1 for 4 with an RBI single and a strikeout. He has a hit in every game this season (three game hit-streak).
• Pierce Mitchum went 1 for 3 with a single, a walk, and a strikeout.
• Hunter Gautreaux went 1 for 3 with a single. He has a hit in every game he has played this season (two-game hit streak).
• Josh Salim went 1 for 1 with a single and a stolen base. He has a hit in every game he has played this season (two game hit-streak).
• Louis Steen and Simmons Sowell have reached base safely in every game this season (three games).
• The Tigers went 1 for 2 in stolen bases.
• Cade McBride threw out the only stolen base attempt of the Bulldogs.
• Ouachita catching held the Bulldogs to 1-2 in stolen bases in the three-game series.

 
Union Highlights:

• Union outscored Ouachita 33 to 18 and outhit them 33 to 24 in the three-game series.
• The Bulldogs pitching staff struck out 10 batters.
• Tyler Thomas went 2 for 2 with 3 RBI's, a double, and a walk.
• Ryan Lee went 1 for 3 with a single, a run, and a walk.
• Drew Hill went 1 for 2 with a two-run double (two RBI's), two runs scored, a walk, and a strikeout.
• Josh Bozoian had a hit in every game of the series. He went 1 for 4 with a single and a run scored.
• Patrick Music had a hit in every game of the series. He went 1 for 4 with a single and two strikeouts.

 
The Ouachita Tigers will host the OBU/HSU Invitational at Rab Rodgers Field for a three-day, three-game series. They will play the University of Central Oklahoma on Friday, Northwest Missouri State on Saturday, and Newman University on Sunday. All three games begin at 1:00 p.m.
