MONTICELLO, Ark. – The Ouachita Tigers dropped two games to Arkansas- Monticello on the opening day of GAC play.
GAME 1: Ouachita 1, Monticello 5
The Tiger's offense was unable to get going as its only run was produced on a fourth inning groundout.
Faith Melton started for the Tigers and went 5 innings, gave up five runs, four earned, on eight hits and struck out three.
Madison Miller came in relief of Melton and went 1 inning and did not allow a run.
The Tigers only had three hits supplied by Madison Miller, Leighton Withers and Callie Jourdan.
The lone run for the Tigers came on a fourth inning groundout to second base by Rebecca Holiman that scored Madison Miller.
UAM scratched a run in the first, then scored four in the third to capture the win.
GAME 2: Ouachita 2, Monticello 3
The Tigers tried to mount a sixth inning comeback but came up just short in a one-run loss.
Nicole Arreola started for the Tigers and gave up just one earned run, three total runs, in 5 innings of work. She struck out four and walked one.
Faith Melton followed Arreola out of the pen and threw one scoreless inning.
The Tiger offense was more productive in game two but was unable to enough runs. Leighton Withers, Sloane Precure and Hope Waid all went 2-3.
In the sixth inning the Tigers scored a run on a Withers solo shot followed up by a Waid single that scored Precure. Unfortunately, it was not enough as UAM put up a three spot in the fourth.
Ouachita Baptist dropped to 2-8, 0-2 in GAC play and Arkansas- Monticello improved to 4-7, 2-0 in conference.
