Arkadelphia, AR-This past weekend the OBU mens tennis team shook off a shaky start against cross state rival Delta State University to finish with a win over DII foe Texas Tyler.
Oo Friday the match began with Delta State sweeping the doubles to take a 1-0 point lead going into the singles. The two Tiger victories came at #3 singles with Dan Kaplun winning 6-3,6-4 and at #6 singles where Nair Adi won 7-5, 6-4.
But on Saturday the Tigers bounce back defeating regionally ranked Texas-Tyler 6-1. The match began with Ouachita winning all 3 doubles matches to take the doubles point and a 1-0 lead.
In the singles the first match finished was Kaplun with a convincing 6-0,6-1 victory. Sophomore Santiago Kearney was next winning 6-4, 6-1. Francisco "Chico" Oliveira put the Tiger's up 4-0 and secured the win with a hard fought 7-6, 6-2 victory. Sophomore Tobias Fuerschuss and Senior Nair Adi added 2 additional points with their singles wins. Final score 6-1 to OBU.
"It was a good weekend to find out what we need work on to compete at a higher level and to come away with a confidence building win." OBU tennis coach Craig Ward said.
The Tigers travel next to Midlothian, Texas to participate in the Midlothian Collegiate Championships on February 7-9. the matches will take place at the Midlothian High School Tennis Complex.
