BETHANY, Okla. – Ouachita Baptist kept things close for a while, but Southern Nazarene exploded down the stretch to hand the Lady Tigers a 75-51 loss.
Jessi Bennett hit a right wing three midway through the third quarter to pull the Lady Tigers within two at 35-33. After that basket, though, it was all Crimson Storm as they were seemingly unstoppable in the final 16 minutes.
Eden Crow led the Tigers with 16 points. Jakyya Clay contributed a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards. Maija Gertstone added 13.
Jaycee Soap led SNU with 20 points. Kennedy Gillette tallied 15.
The Lady Tigers made just two field goals in the first quarter opening the door for SNU to take early control. In the second quarter, though, Ouachita was able to pull things together.
Despite Southern Nazarene leading for the entire half, Ouachita closed the gap before the buzzer. Eden Crow hit a last second layup to send the Lady Tigers into half, down by four.
Coming out of halftime, Ouachita quickly tied it up at 29 on a Crow layup. With defensive physicality and offensive efficiency, in the early going of the second half, the Lady Tigers kept pace with SNU. The tide quickly shifted.
Beginning at the six-minute mark in the third, SNU closed the quarter on an 11-2 run to go into the final period up 46-35. The Crimson Storm capped the game by outscoring Ouachita 40-18 in the final 16 minutes to run away with a blowout victory.
Ouachita dropped to 4-16, 1-13 in conference play, while Southern Nazarene improved to 13-5, 10-4 in conference.
