ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Lady Tigers pieced together one of its most complete games highlighted by consistent three-point shooting, but fell 73-64 to Arkansas Tech.
Ouachita brought a noticeably higher level of energy to this matchup with an increase in defensive communication and offensive misdirection. The Lady Tigers led for nearly the entire game but come the fourth, its shooting fizzled. The Golden Suns completed the comeback in the final six minutes to win by seven.
Eden Crow led the Lady Tigers with 21 points. Maija Gertsone was hot in the first half and finished with 19. Madison Raney contributed a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards.
Sarah Heard led the Golden Suns with 25. Jayana Sanders also scored 21. Kaley Shipman added 18.
Maija Gertstone came out on fire scoring eight of the first 12 for the Lady Tigers and finished the period with 14. The Lady Tigers went into the second quarter with a 22-18 lead.
The Golden Suns began the second quarter on an 8-3 run, and it appeared as if the momentum was shifting. Ouachita reengaged its aggressive defense and quickly regained the lead. Tech closed the half in a zone, but Ouachita's offense was simply better. The Lady Tigers shot 7-12 from three-point range and went into half with a 35-31 lead.
The Lady Tigers brought the same high intensity to start the third extending its lead out to seven. Ouachita transitioned into a zone defense, but Tech fought back to cut the deficit to one to close the third.
The Lady Tigers held the lead for nearly the entire game, but the Golden Suns went ahead less than a minute into the fourth. Ouachita switched back into its zone but was unable to prevent the comeback. Despite the tenacity, the Lady Tigers fell by seven.
Ouachita dropped to 4-17, 1-14 in conference play, while Arkansas Tech improved to 14-5, 11-4 in conference.
