ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Tigers (2-4) defeated the Newman Jets (2-5) 3-2 to close out the final game of the OBU/HSU Invitational.
Beau Burson (1-1) earned his first win as a Tiger. He threw five innings, allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits, and struck out six batters.
Ben Miller (0-0) appeared in relief for 3.2 innings of scoreless baseball. He struck out four batters and allowed two hits.
Carter Wade (1-0) received his first save of the season, striking out the final batter of the game to give the Tigers the win.
Offensively, the Tigers timely hitting in the fifth inning scored all three runs to push them ahead 3-2 for the win.
Simmons Sowell reached base on an error from the third baseman, before he advanced to second on a single from
Hunter Gautreaux. A batter later,
Pierce Mitchum doubled down the left field line to score Gautreaux and Colton Schrader, who pinch ran for Sowell. Mitchum would then score the go ahead run on a
Chris Willard single.
