JACKSON, Tennessee – The Ouachita Baptist University volleyball team competed in its final non-conference match of the season on Monday, resulting in a 3-0 loss on the road against Union University
Final game scores were 25-17, 25-20, and 25-20.
In the first set, the Tigers fell behind 13-8, but rallied back to within two at 16-14 on back-to-back kills by
Brooke Jones. The Bulldogs (13-6) took over from there to take the early match lead.
In the second set, with Ouachita up 9-8 on a kill by
EJ Day, Union rattled off five in a row to create a comfortable lead, and later used four straight points run to seal the set and go up 2-0 in the match.
Neither team had a run of more than three points in the third set, but it was the Bulldogs with five of the last six points to close out their victory.
Ouachita hit .167 for the match with 35 kills and 15 errors on 120 swings.
Kayla Steinmeyer led the Tigers with nine kills, followed by Day with seven,
Emily Low with six, and
Audrey Gallagher with five.
Kellen Church led the team in assists with 13.
Lexie Castillow paced the back row defense with 14 digs.
Currently tied for eighth place in the Great American Conference standings, the Tigers look to improve their chances to make the league's championship tournament in November with nine more league matches remaining in the regular season. Up next is a road trip to Oklahoma this Thursday and Saturday to take on Southeastern Oklahoma State and East Central.
