ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University women's basketball opens the 2021-22 season on Friday, November 19 at home against the nationally 10th-ranked Texas A&M-Commerce Lions.
Tipoff on Friday is set for 5:30 p.m. inside Bill Vining Arena. The game will be broadcast live on YouTube with the Ouachita Sports Digital Network. There will also be live statistics. Links can be found at www.OBUtigers.com/coverage. General admission tickets will be available upon arrival for $5.
The Tigers, like many programs across the country, missed much of the 2020-21 season due to COVID-19. Ouachita managed nine games last spring, and finished 4-5 in those contests, all against Great American Conference competition.
Ouachita returns two starters and five letter winners from last year's squad, including junior Makayla Miller, who averaged 18.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, and just under four assists per game. Senior Jessi Bennet is back as well for the Tigers after finishing last year with an average of 4.2 points per game. She is one of three seniors on the team along with sisters Kailen and Lauren Wright.
Friday's opponent comes to Arkadelphia with a 2-0 record after knocking off a pair of Colorado schools last weekend at a tournament hosted by Colorado Christian. The Lions beat CSU-Pueblo 74-68 and the host CCU 83-74. A&M-Commerce, which is becoming an NCAA Division I member next year in the Southland Conference, went 14-4 last season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA regional tournament.
Following Friday's game, the Tigers will be back in action on Tuesday, November 23 at home against Champion Christian starting at 5:30 p.m.
