ARKADELPHIA – Ma'Darius Hobson and Larenz Nero both reached the 20-point scoring level to lead the Ouachita Baptist University men's basketball team in a 92-85 loss to Harding on Saturday at home.
Hobson scored his second highest total of the season with 23 after connecting on 10-of-15 shots from the field in 34 minutes. Nero scored a career-high 20 points against the Bisons after going a perfect 8-for-8 from the field.
Kendarious Smith and Tylar Haynes each added 15 points. Haynes led the Tigers in rebounding with six boards.
Harding (3-4, 1-1 GAC) led for all-but-one possession of the game, reaching a double-digit advantage late in the first half and holding its largest lead of 15 in the final two minutes before halftime.
Ouachita (1-6, 0-2 GAC) trimmed its deficit down to five early in the second half following a quick 8-0 run capped by a three-pointer from Hobson at the 15:45 mark. Harding responded with a rally to go up by 12 by the time the under-12 media timeout came around.
The Tigers kept the game close from that point, and cut the Harding lead down to just five points in the final seconds on a putback by Haynes.
Overall, the Tigers finished the game above 50 percent in shooting, connecting on 32-of-61 shots. The difference in the game was Harding shooting just above 60 percent in the second half and taking advantage of its free throw opportunities. The Bisons were 22-for-29 at the line, while the Tigers were 15-for-17.
