Bats Erupt in 11-0 Midweek Win

THE RUNDOWN

Ouachita Baptist and Texas A&M-Texarkana played a scoreless first four-and-a-half innings Tuesday before the Tigers broke out for 11 runs in their final three turns at bat, invoking the mercy rule in an 11-0 win. Louis Steen's three-run home run put the finishing touches on the victory.

Garret Hermes held TAMUT scoreless through 5.0 innings, scattering four hits while striking out three batters and issuing no walks to improve his record to 1-1.

Ouachita entered the bottom of the fifth still searching for its first hit of the game. Cade Burris led off with a triple to deep right center field and broke the scoreless tie on Pierce Mitchum's RBI groundout.

The Tigers scored seven runs on five hits in the sixth. After CW Schrader's sacrifice bunt put runners at second and third, Cole Kelly drove them both in with a single. Burris added an RBI single three batters later. Steen drew a bases-loaded walk to drive in a run. After a bases-loaded balk plated Burris, Blake Tubbs found a hole in the left side for a two-run single.

Steen came to the plate with runners at first and second and two outs in the seventh and deposited the sixth pitch of the at-bat over the left field fence to end the game.

Carter Wade earned the save after entering in the sixth with a 1-0 lead. The lefty struck out two batters and allowed just one hit in 2.0 innings of relief.
