THE RUNDOWN
Ouachita Baptist baseball entered the ninth inning facing a four-run deficit, but
Louis Steen's grand slam capped off a six-run rally to give the Tigers a come-from-behind victory at Arkansas-Monticello. That slam was Steen's second of the game after a go-ahead granny in the third inning.
The Boll Weevils took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but Steen put his team in the lead in the third. The Tiger left fielder stepped to the plate with one out and the bases loaded and deposited a pitch over the center field fence.Â
UAM tied the game in the bottom of the third and took the lead with a three-run fourth. The Weevils added runs in the sixth and seventh to extend the lead.
Pierce Mitchum drove in a run in the eighth to cut the gap to 9-5.
An error and two walks loaded the bases with nobody out for
Simmons Sowell in the top of the ninth. The Ouachita shortstop slapped a double down the left field line to plate a pair of runs.
Tyler Riebock drew a walk to load the bases for Steen. His second grand salami of the game cleared the left field fence to give the Tigers an 11-9 lead.Â
Cooper Timmons worked around a walk and a hit to close out the Weevils for the save, striking out the final two hitters of the game.
