Tigers Defeat Harding To Start Big Conference Weekend

THE RUNDOWN

Ouachita Baptist men's tennis defeated Harding 5-2 Thursday in front of a crowd of hundreds in Searcy. The Tigers used singles victories from No. 10 Francisco Oliveira, Alex Blanchar, Fernando Docters and Matias Parzajuk to put the match away after winning the singles point.

"I have never been more proud of a team," head coach Craig Ward said. "Harding's fans really came out today and cheered on their team. It was raucous, and we kept our calm when the pressure mounted. We had to win this one to have a shot at the conference tournament. Today we will enjoy the win, and tomrrow it's back to work."

In doubles, Oliveira and Santiago Kearney picked up a 7-5 win on Court 1, and Tobias Fuerschuss and Docters won 6-3 on Court 3.

Oliveira picked up a straight-set victory on Court 1, defeating Arthur Bellan 6-2, 6-3. Blanchar beat Morgan Salvan 6-4, 6-3 on Court 3.

After a tight first set, Docters dominated the second on Court 5 in a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Alvaro de Lorenzo. Parzajuk emerged victorious in a mirror image of Docters' match, defeating Brcye Walker 6-0, 7-5 on Court 6.

Oliveira improved to 11-2 in singles play on the year. Kearney ran his record to 9-3 after two straight unfinished singles matches. Blanchar's win was his eighth in a row. Docters improved to 7-2 on the year with his win. Parzajuk rebounded from his first loss of the year to run his record to 5-1.
