THE RUNDOWN
East Central led 3-0 through four innings, but Ouachita Baptist, sparked by two grand slams by
Madison Miller, scored 12 runs in the fifth and sixth to invoke the mercy rule Sunday in the second game of a doubleheader and third game of the weekend series at Sully Anderson Field. Miller's second grand slam of the game ended the contest with one out in the bottom of the sixth for her second walk-off home run of the series.
ECU took the lead with a two-run homer in the first inning and added a run in the fourth. Ouachita put six runners on base in the first four innings but could not break through until the fifth.
With two outs in the bottom of the fifth,
Sloane Precure singled home
Hope Waid for the home Tigers' first run of the game. After a hit by pitch and a walk loaded the bases, Miller stepped up and launched a ball over the left center field fence to give her team the lead.Â
After
Nicole Arreola set the visitors down in order in the top of the sixth, Ouachita loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the frame.
Heather Brown drove in
Kirsten Shaw with a single to center with
Kyndal Moyer coming around on a throwing error by the centerfielder. After
Jillian Jones drove home a run with a sacrifice fly,
Callie Jourdan walked to load the bases for Miller. The junior first baseman launched her second granny of the game over the left field fence to end the game and the series.Â
