Tigers Walk Off East Central to Take Series

THE RUNDOWN

It took eight innings, but Ouachita Baptist defeated East Central 5-4 on Heather Brown's walk-off single in the first game of a doubleheader and the second game of the weekend series at Sully Anderson Field. Brown took advantage of a bad hop that sent her grounder past the ECU second baseman to drive in Tally Turnbow with the game-winning run.

East Central scored the first run of the game on a successful double steal in the third inning.  Ouachita took its first lead with three runs in the fifth. Sloane Precure tied the game with a bases-loaded single to center field. The next batter, Jillian Jones, was hit by a pitch to force home the go-ahead run. Madison Miller added some insurance with an RBI single of her own.

The visitors took the lead back in the sixth when a bases-loaded single and an error plated three runs to make it 4-3 ECU. Ouachita struck back in the bottom of the inning as Brown drove in Hope Waid with a single to tie the game.

The home squad put two runners on with two out in the bottom of the seventh, but they ended the inning stranded at first and second.

Nikki Schneider retired the side in order in the top of the eighth to set the stage for Brown's heroics. Turnbow led off the inning by reaching on an error by the ECU second baseman and advanced to scoring position on Kyndal Moyer's successful sacrifice bunt. Brown hit a grounder toward second base that took a fortuitous bounce, evading the defender's glove and allowing Turnbow to cross the plate
