DENTON, Texas – The Ouachita volleyball team took a two game lead in the opening sets, but Texas-Permian Basis rallied to take the match with three wins in a row on Friday at the Denton Volleyfest hosted by Texas Woman's University.
The Tigers (1-5) won the first two sets 25-17 and 25-20, but struggled in the third set, falling 25-11 to the Falcons (4-2).
Ouachita led early in the fourth set, including a 12-4 advantage following a 6-0 run. Ouachita matched that eight-point lead twice more in the set, and eventually held match point at 24-23. The Falcons needed extra points to force a fifth set with a 27-25 win in the fourth.
UTPB held the lead throughout most of the fifth frame. Ouachita rallied to force a 14-14 tie, but the Falcons scored two unanswered the end the match.
Kayla Steinmeyer led Ouachita with 14 kills, followed by
Rileigh Fielder and
Brooke Jones with 10 kills each.
Emily Low finished with nine kills and three total blocks.
Temi Fayiga and
Kellen Church shared the setting duties with a final total of 21 and 14 assists, respectively.
Defensively,
Lexie Castillow recorded 39 digs to match her career-high.
