DENTON, Texas – The Ouachita volleyball team finished its participation in the Denton Volleyfest with a pair of victories on Saturday to win three of four matches over the weekend.
The Tigers (3-5) defeated Southwest Baptist (4-3) in five sets, and later beat the host team, Texas Woman's (4-4), in four sets.
In the win over SBU, the Bearcats won the opening set 25-21, followed by two Ouachita wins at 25-23 and 25-19. SBU came back to win the fourth set 25-18 to force a fifth frame, which Ouachita won 15-13.
Kayla Steinmeyer (12),
Karli Ferguson (10), and
EJ Day (10) all reached double-digits in kills to lead the Tiger offense in the win over SBU.
Lexie Castillow (26) and
Kellen Church (18) led the Tiger defense in digs.
In the win over TWU, the Tigers again found themselves down early after the Pioneers took the opening frame and did so convincingly 25-15. OBU rallied to take the next three sets by scores of 25-21, 25-22, and 25-22.
Steinmeyer and Day led the Tigers in the nightcap with 15 and 13 kills, respectively.
Zhara Thomas added six kills and also had a team-high five total blocks. Castillow paced the defense with 23 digs.
The Tigers had a strong day at the service line. OBU had 11 service aces in the win over SBU and nine against TWU.
Ouachita returns to Arkadelphia for its next four matches, including the Battle of the Ravine, volleyball edition, on Tuesday, September 14 against Henderson State. First serve is 6 p.m. at the Sturgis Center.
